Mickey is the driving force behind Countdown City Sports, bringing a lifetime of dedication and passion to our mission. As a disabled veteran from San Antonio, Texas, Mickey’s journey is one of resilience and commitment to community service. His story is deeply intertwined with the mission of Countdown City Sports, reflecting his unwavering desire to make a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged youth.

After serving in the military, Mickey and his wife, both disabled veterans, found a new calling in helping others. With a rich background in coaching and managing sports teams in South San Antonio, Mickey witnessed firsthand the transformative power of sports. He managed four teams, nurturing young athletes and fostering a sense of teamwork and discipline.

However, Mickey’s vision extends beyond just coaching. He saw a significant gap in access to sports facilities for children in underprivileged areas. Many kids lacked the resources to participate in organized sports, and Mickey knew he wanted to change that. He envisioned a program that would not only provide access to sports like basketball and volleyball but also offer a supportive environment where children could grow, learn, and thrive.

The goal of Countdown City Sports is to bridge this gap. Mickey’s experience and personal journey fuel the organization’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth, particularly those who might otherwise be left out. By leveraging his knowledge, experience, and the support of his community, Mickey is leading the charge to make sports accessible to all children, regardless of their background.
